In Spain, this year, 696 blue banners have been raised in beaches and ports along the coast. That makes this country hold the first place in the world ranking, according to the data provided by ADEAC (Association of Environmental and Consumer Education).
Of those almost 700 distinctions that recognize and promote the efforts mae to improve the beach, public and citizens to meet the required criteria of legality, accessibility, health, environmental education, cleanliness and safety, six of them are located in the Axarquía area, and four specifically correspond to the municipality of Vélez-Málaga.
6 blue flags in the Axarquía
The town of Vélez-Málaga as we mentioned has four of the six flags. These are on the beaches of Benajarafe, Caleta Paseo y Torre del Mar, as well as el puerto de la Caleta de Vélez.
To get to them you will need little more than 30 minutes by car and they are a real paradise for those who visit them. Calm waters and moderate temperatures to enjoy the sun and the sea breeze.
In addition, they all add up to a total of 5 kilometers of coastline for you to travel at any time of the day.
The neighboring town of Torrox is a little less than 30 minutes driving, because only 20 kilometers separate them. The playa de Ferrara is the one that, in this 2018 edition, has been made with the quality badge. This urban beach is completely integrated into the city. With fine sand and calm waters, it measures one kilometer and 200 meters long and 30 meters wide. It has all the services and a promenade that delights visitors.
Algarrobo and Algarrobo Costa, are located between Puerto de la Caleta de Vélez and La Mezquitilla beach. Its sand is darker and is mixed with gravel and is located more than 15 kilometers from Cómpeta.
In Algarrobo Costa the blue flag has been raised for several years since it is one of the biggest attractions of the place and it shows the care with which they take care of it. Around you there are chiringuitos and restaurants that surely call the attention of your palate with their proposals.
