A beautiful town in the middle of Málaga

One of the things that we are most proud of in Cómpeta is our location. We are at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara, declared a Natural Park. On its hillside we have built our homes and businesses so we can enjoy a quiet life every day, surrounded by nature, breathing fresh air and escaping to walk their paths whenever we can.  Care to join us? And do not forget to put in your suitcase comfortable walking shoes to do any of the routes that we propose in this post.

Parish Church of Our “Lady of the Assumption”

Its tower 30 meters high is the first thing that catches your attention when you see the parish church. It is from the end of the century and was built by order of Queen Isabella the Catholic in 1505. The original building was destroyed in an earthquake but later it was raised again. On the main altar stands the carving of the Assumption, painted by Francisco Hernández, from 1972. The mural of the baptismal font is from the Hermitage of San Sebastian, patron of the construction.

Sweet wine of Cómpeta

The typical gastronomic products of Cómpeta is its sweet wine. Land of farmers, the vine of our fields gives us each year sweet grapes that we transform into a much loved wine in the whole region. Together with our rich and varied gastronomy, eating and drinking in Cómpeta is a real pleasure.

If you want to experience a true party, come on August 15, the day we celebrate the Night of Wine. You will not regret it!

Historical center of Cómpeta

A simple walk through our quiet streets will transport you to another era. It’s that simple and that easy. We enjoy a lifestyle little seen now, away from the noise and crowds. Therefore, we encourage you to take a walk around our streets and live it yourself. The most important street of our town is San Antonio, which is located behind Plaza Almijara. It divides the city into two districts. A tour of the Church of Our “Lady of the Assumption”, the Hermitage of San Antón and enjoy the panoramic view offered by the Gaudí style, may just be enough to make you fall in love with Cómpeta.

Gaudian lookout

Before reaching Cómpeta, you will find this interesting viewpoint, characteristic of color and uniqueness. From it you can enjoy unique views of the town, the Maroma, which is the highest peak in the province of Malaga, and the Natural Park of the Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara mountain ranges.
